The worst news that you can receive as a parent is that your son is sick with cancer, in our case as fathers we received the news in September 2018 that our 11 years old son has a rare kind of cancer called Ewing Sarcoma. He is 13 years old now.
Our son is fighting a terrible cancer and after two years of chemotherapy and multiple sessions of radiotherapy the tumor has returned, and now it is growing. Now we do not have any more possible treatment options in Costa Rica and after a very extensive search we have some hope in Mexico with a different chemotherapy line and a bone marrow transplant plus another expensive radiotherapy treatment before traveling to Mexico. This treatment will be hard for him, not only for the effects of another chemotherapy but also being away from family and friends but he is a fighter.
We are asking for help from you all, as our medical insurance will not cover the new medical expenses outside of Costa Rica, and we do not have the money needed for this new treatment in Mexico. We have spent and borrowed against everything we have over the last two years. All we want to do his to make his life as comfortable as possible and hope and pray that with your support this treatment can cure his cancer.
Ewing Sarcoma is a rare and aggressive type of pediatric cancer that attacks the bones and then lungs and other organs. It is usually treated with chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery. In my son’s case surgery was not an option because of the location and that it was detected with multiple locations in the spine.

La peor noticia que un padre puede recibir es que un hijo este enfermo con cáncer. En nuestro caso recibimos la noticia en Setiembre del 2018 de que nuestro hijo de 11 años tiene un tipo raro de cáncer llamado Sarcoma de Ewing. Él tiene 13 años ahora.
Nuestro hijo ha estado luchando contra este terrible cáncer y después de dos años de quimioterapia y radioterapia el cáncer ha regresado y está creciendo. Actualmente en Costa Rica no tenemos más tratamientos disponibles para él y tras una larga búsqueda hemos encontrado una esperanza en México con una línea diferente de quimioterapia y un trasplante de médula ósea. Además de estos tratamientos el requiere de un tratamiento de radioterapia antes de poder viajar. Este nuevo tratamiento va a ser muy duro para él no solo por los efectos de la quimioterapia además de estar largo de la familia y amigos, pero él es un luchador.
Les pedimos ayuda de todos ustedes debido a que nuestro seguro medico no cubre ninguno de los gastos médicos fuera de Costa Rica y nosotros no tenemos el dinero para este tratamiento. Tras dos años acompañándolo y luchando con él hemos gastado todo lo que teníamos. Nuestro mayor objetivo es hacer su vida más cómoda y rezamos para que con su ayuda él pueda recibir este nuevo tratamiento y superar el cáncer.
El Sarcoma de Ewing es un extraño tipo de cáncer pediátrico que ataca los huesos y después se extiende a pulmones y otros órganos. Este cáncer generalmente es tratado con radioterapia, quimioterapia y cirugía. En el caso de nuestro hijo la cirugía no fue una opción debido que se localiza en varias partes de la columna.
