SDAH FREE MATERNAL HEALTHCARE (FMH) PROJECT

Donation protected
My name is Kunmi Akarakiri and I spent 7 years of my early years as a Rural Family Medicine Practitioner in Seventh-Day Adventist Hospital, Ile-Ife.

99% of maternal deaths occur in developing countries every year.Nigeria currently accounts for nearly 20% of global maternal deaths, with 1 out of 22 women at a lifetime risk of dying through pregnancy, childbirth or postpartum. As high as that is, it is still underreported considering those taking place in the core rural places, at home, traditional birthplace and faith-based institutions. Knowing 95% of maternal deaths are preventable, my alma mater for postgraduate training,Seventh-Day Adventist Hospital,Ile-Ife (a mission-based health institution rendering holistic healthcare services) has taken the bull by the horn to decrease the current maternal morbidity and mortality rate in Ile-Ife and Nigeria by half by May 2023 and champion a sustainable model for tackling maternal mortality in Sub-Sahara Africa by tackling the number one underlying factor -poverty- free maternal healthcare and engage in community education to empower the people. Free maternal healthcare (FMH) project was launched on 23rd May,2022. We also believe that no mother needs to die, especially at childbirth, and any death of a mother at childbirth is a terrible and preventable tragedy. This is part of why we decided to provide a comprehensive healthcare package for 2,000 needy pregnant women for FREE, providing all facets of pregnancy management - such as tests, clinic visits, medications, admissions, deliveries (vaginal and surgical) - at no cost to the women. This project (by help of passionate sponsors and donors) as at today is 8 weeks old and has had:
-Applications: 545 women
-Enrollments (attendance of first clinic): 356 women
-Admissions (to the ward): 89 women
-Total deliveries: 46
-Caesarean sections: 17
-Vaginal deliveries: 29
-Discharged alive and well: 86 women
-Currently on admission: 3
-Non-delivery admissions: 43
-Babies: 49 (3 twin deliveries!)

This kind of impactful project needs lots of funding and resources;there is so much to go ahead! For this project we need 314,199,000 Naira (approximately 698,220 CAD)

Kindly help us, any amount can do so much for us and save another mother and baby in Africa.

You are deeply appreciated.

Thank you!
