Scuderia Ortiz’s Race for a Cause

"I want to revisit my homeland and contribute something along the way".

Gerardo Ortiz, originally from Mexico migrated to the US in 1995, and has not been able to go back to Mexico since then. To enter the Pan Am Race (Carrera Panamericana) and use it to take school supplies to an orphanage in San Miguel would be a dream come true for him.

In 1990 Gerardo saw the racers arrive in Queretaro and they made a great impression on him. "I thought: when I grow up I want to participate in it. As fate would have it, I came to the U.S. and due to immigration issues I had not been able to return to my country, this is my chance".

Gerardo is preparing, together with his son and co-pilot Joaquín, a 1964 Classic mini Cooper called "El ausente" for La Carrera Panamericana, everything on budget and DIY.

This mini Cooper was assembled in New Zealand, imported to California. He bought it in 2004 for restoration. But now it is being prepared for racing.

It requieres professional safety requirements as a racing car. Based on the FIA international regulations like a protective cage (anti rollover), a sealed gas tank (so that it does not spill in case of rollover, special fire extinguishers, brakes, suspension, and many other features).

The race is high performance. In 7 days more than 3 thousand kilometers are covered. This time it starts in Oaxaca on October 14th, 2022.

From Oaxaca, Veracruz is the next stop, then Mexico City by October 16th, Michoacán on the 17th, Aguascalientes on the 18th, Durango on the 19th, and Coahuila for the 20th and 21st of October, 2022.

"Being here in the US, missing my country, Mexico, I always aspired of participating in this race ... I bought the mini with the dream of someday participating in this race".

Mexico is not a very safe country to travel on the road and this is a good opportunity, to do it collectively. During the trajectory, together with pilot Pedro Vidal from Miami, we will bring school supplies and other needs to orphaned children in the orphanage Casa Hogar Santa Julia Don Bosco, A.C. https://casahogarsantajuliadonbosco.org/

Casa Hogar Santa Julia is a home for children from precarious family circumstances. The children are brought to the home by police, social services personnel, and family members, and are received with open arms there.

Please Join the Cause!

I will use the money only to enter the race and take the supplies to the children. Please help!

You can follow the mini Cooper's complete restoration and safety requirements on social media:

Please make our dreams come true!
