Valve for Full Face Snorkel Mask as Personal PPE

My name is Dr. Peter Baek, an anesthesiologist in Plano, Texas. I am concerned about the supply of PPE to protect myself and my colleagues when treating patients who are suffering from the Coronavirus (COVID-19). There is a world-wide shortage of masks and other PPE, and I did not want to wait until the supply runs out to find an alternative solution.
After much thought and consideration, I decided that a full-face scuba mask mated to a hospital grade filter would make a great option.
I worked with Invene, a Dallas based healthcare product development company, to rapidly prototype various designs using a 3-D printer. With the help of industry experts, we went through multiple designs in order to optimize the number of filters needed as well as the design of the connector in order to reduce print time.
Over the past 2 weeks, I discovered others who had come to the same conclusion -- namely that a re-engineered scuba mask makes a great PPE. Dr Manu Prakash (Stanford) had already begun work with Dr John Pearson (University of Utah) to come up with a similar solution.

Drs Prakash and Pearson have done a tremendous amount of work to verify the concept including the development of Decontamination Protocols (autoclaving, bleach immersion, ethanol immersion) and procedures for Donning/Doffing. Their design for connector and mask testing was done on the Dolfino Frontier brand mask sourced from Walmart while I designed my valve based on the Divelux brand sourced from Amazon.
My design is very similar to their connector with some minor differences:
1) The latch has been removed for easier handling and storage.
2) The receiving end of the connector is thicker to avoid cracking under the stress of repeatedly placing and removing from the mask.
3) The limb that attaches to the filter is designed to fit a standard 22 mm internal diameter filter and requires an O-ring to achieve a tight fit, regardless of manufacturer.
