Scout on Wheels

Meet Scout: She is a cuddle bug. Brown little bundle of fur, craving attention, warmth and play. Hers is a tug-life! Scout is a perfect combination of play and adventure drive and settles down on blanket that smells like her human right away. No training needed for this! She is a cheerful little puppy, with life shining in her eyes. She was left paralysed in her hind after a spinal injury during one of her scouting adventures and we believe that she was hit by a human, probably a mindless guard on our campus. But she doesn’t know that she is paralyzed and is your usual puppo, who loves to make her human run, play with friendly dogs, and go woof woof!

Does Scout deserve this? All it took was one hit from a mindless human to start a cascade of misfortunes for our bravest and most playful pup. After the spinal fracture, she suffered for ten days in pain, confusion and agony before any help arrived. At her foster, she was growled at constantly by a bossy insecure resident dog and her freedom was curtailed to protect her from him. Over time, her nerves at the site of fracture started getting compressed and her lower limbs became overextended and stiff. Her foster took her on a five hour drive to capital for expert veterinary opinion, and there she broke her femur. An emergency surgery to pin her femur was unsuccessful leaving her with a 2 inch gap in femur and an incision site prone to recurrent infections. Further, due to a series of misfortunes at her foster’s place, Scout got miserably lonely and started chewing off her foot. Her foster wrongly assumed that she needed freedom and friendly dogs to play with, dropped her at a no-kill shelter that allowed friendly dogs to roam freely. Our Scout was so heartbroken and depressed there that she chewed more of her legs. She is currently back with her foster and is being treated for her injuries by a local vet, who agrees that veterinary facilities in India are dismal.

Scout needs to come to North America ASAP: Scout is in need of a family that can give her freedom to roam around, cuddle and play time to keep her engaged, and medical attention. Scout is currently at a foster, where her freedom is limited because of an elder dog, who misses no opportunity to threaten or attack our little cuddle bug. Scout will have a painfully short life if she doesn’t leave this country for a better home and medical attention. Once her current treatment is over, Scout will be ready to fly to her forever home! Help Scout find her forever family that will be far far away from the streets, where dogs are routinely hit, relocated, and even killed.

Please don’t worry: We are aware that it seems as though the odds are stacked against our girl, however, we are very lucky to have many guardian angels in our corner helping and guiding us through both the adoption appeal and Scout’s recent medical issues. Many people have come together in an effort to make this girl’s story known to the world in hopes of finding her the home she deserves:
Christine of @livelikeed and also the proud owner of a dog in a wheelchair from India, Jen, who is so knowledgable about everything pertaining to our furry friends and a frequent adopter of Indie dogs as well and Nicole, who many know as Rumi’s and Sookie’s mom. She has gotten a good start this year placing a few dogs, so with this team combined, and supporters like you, we just know that we can turn this story into a happy ending!
