Scout's Chemotherapy Treatment Plan

Donation protected

We first would like to acknowledge this is an extremely difficult time for everyone emotionally and financially worldwide.

We recently received news that our five year old dog Scout, has an advanced stage of B-Cell Lymphoma. This came as an abrupt surprise to our entire family. Not only was this devastating news, it comes at one of the most difficult times we have ever encountered; our entire source of income has abruptly been severed due to the pandemic. We have two physical retail stores in Sonoma County (named after our dog Scout), both of which have been non-operational since March 13th 2020.

We have diligently been searching for solutions for this incurable diagnosis and this is what we have found; our best course of action to aid in a better quality of life for Scout is a 19 week Chemotherapy protocol. Not only will this protocol help with the remission of his advanced cancer, it will potentially extend his life and give us more time with our beloved boy.

Dogs who do not receive Chemotherapy at this stage inevitably succumb to the illness within weeks. Dogs who receive this treatment respond well to the protocol and we have a much greater chance of helping him. “Most dogs with multicentric lymphoma that are treated with a multi-drug (CHOP) protocol typically respond well to chemotherapy with 80-90% of them achieving clinical remission.”

Scout was originally diagnosed with stage 5 Lymphoma- we sought another opinion and have received recent news he is potentially at stage 4-A of B-Cell Lymphoma.

The protocol we have chosen with the help of several Veterinarians is called the CHOP-CHEMOTHERAPY treatment which is given weekly.

Another note; because of the pandemic no facility is Sonoma County is offering weekly treatments so we have sought services in Walnut Creek California where we have started his process with a wonderful oncologist.

We would like to inform our community that a dog responds very differently to Chemotherapy than people- the word Chemo can bring on immediate anxiety, but we have learned that canines can tolerate this treatment much better than people. The side effects are rare and include nausea and upset stomach.

We have thought long and hard about this choice and what it comes down to is we want to fight for Scout, we want to give him the treatment that can potentially give us more time with him and improve his overall quality of life.

While we watch our business completely collapse we are faced with what is really important- and what we are left with is that the people and creatures we love are the most valuable part of our lives.

This creature, Scout the dog, has brought more light, joy, silliness and comfort to our lives than we could have ever imagined and we are devastated at the idea of losing him so quickly to this illness. If you personally know us, you know Scout is not just a pet to us- he is an enormous part of our family. We are seeking treatment for him the same way we would a family member who had a terminal illness.  We are thrilled there are options available, and we are asking for our community's help in obtaining these services and medications for him.

It is difficult to ask for help especially during a time when so many are suffering. We are asking for your generosity only if and when it is possible. We ask that if you cannot give please share this with whoever you see fit.

Any amount will help us fight for the treatment. All of your donations will pay for Scout's Chemotherapy drugs during this time.  We need to begin treatment immediately starting this week and this plan will last 19 weeks until completion. $7,000 is the quote we were given from the Veterinary hospital in Walnut Creek.

We thank you for reading and passing this on, we thank you for your support , compassion and kindness during unprecedented this time.

Love,

Grace, Oliver and Scout.
