Scott's Journey

My pops was diagnosed with liver cancer in June.   He has gone through all different types of medical treatment, including chemotherapy.  He has spent numerous days and nights at the mayo clinic in Jacksonville Florida.  He has not been able to work due to his illness, and my mother has to be home  to give him the treatment that he needs, therefore, her work availability has been limited.   She tries to hold two part time jobs and juggle his treatment and doctor appointments between the two, and try to keep her home in order.   It has been a trying time for them both, physically and emotionally.  We almost lost him this past year due to sepsis.  He spent quite a bit of time in the hospital.  After the sepsis he started chemotherapy in June.  From July 2017 the Mayo clinic began to do a lot of testing to figure out if he was a candidate for a liver transplant.  At the end of September  they got the call that he was a good candidate for a liver transplant.  Recently God answered all of our prayers and a liver become available that was a match for him.  He had a transplant the evening of November 30th and he is now in recovery.   The recovery time for this transplant is approximately a full year.  He will need 24 hour around the clock care for at least 4-5 months depending on how well his body reacts to the new liver.   During this time he will need my mother to continue to care for him.  She will not be able to work for those 4-5 months.  His prescriptions and medical plan, including insurance are going to cost quite a bit.  They will also have to meet a new deductable for the new year.   They will not have any income for living expenses, doctor bills, insurance, prescriptions, etc.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  We could also use a lot of prayers during this time.  Prayers that his body accepts his new liver.  They will be staying at the Gabriel House after they leave the Mayo Clinic and will be there for at least a month.  Any gifts, well wishes or cards can be sent to:
