Scott's Transportation Crisis

In the past I have found myself hoping that I would never be in a situation which would compel me to run to Facebook begging for help. Well, here I am doing just that. The blame falls squarely on the rusty, rotting, gas-leaking underside of my 2000 Corolla. I took it to the mechanic today to have required work done because it had failed a safety inspection. The mechanic told me that it would require multiple thousands of dollars in repairs and suggested that I go shopping for a better vehicle. That’s simply not in the budget. As is, we will need to put over a thousand dollars into Sara’s vehicle so that it can pass inspection. We live week to week, and we just can’t run out to some shady used car salesman and scoff up another set of wheels which will likely require money to fix.

There may be a silver lining, but that’s where the begging comes in. Our mechanic is a fine gent, a fellow of integrity and honesty. He has a nice 2009 Nissan Sentra for sale. It would be a blessing if we could buy it! It’s in great shape, from what I can tell, and I absolutely trust the seller. He is asking for $3,000. But we don’t have the funds, nor do we have time to save for it, because a dealership is hot to scoff up the Sentra. The mechanic said he would hold onto it for me until tomorrow evening, and so the clock is ticking…

Sara and I cannot get by with just one vehicle. We work different times, and getting my stepdaughter to and from school factors into the situation as well. If we lose one of our vehicles one of us will lose a job, and with only one income we will lose our apartment. Yep, we’d be screwed. Last year we finally moved out of scary, crime-ridden Pawtucket. We were lucky to find a place in a nicer town on a quiet dead end street untouched by drug dealers and bullets. It would be tragic if we had to lose this lovely place and return to the bleakness we had escaped from. So, that one little black Sentra would make an enormous positive impact in our lives.

It’s rather embarrassing, but we would like to ask for your help. We would be terribly grateful if folks could throw something our way. We really need our jobs in order to be able to get to and from our jobs, and my stepdaughter deserves to grow up in an area that is safe and pleasant. Please, please lend a hand if you can.

The amount we are asking for would allow us to purchase the Sentra (get it inspected and registered and pay taxes) and get Sara’s vehicle in shape to pass inspection, and we’ve factored in the percentage that Go Fund Me takes from the money that people gift, if folks are kind enough to lend a hand. Thank you so much for anything you can do!

Best,

Scott and Sara
