Scott's mystery medical tour.

Donation protected
During the early morning hours of June 26th, just a few days after his 50th birthday, Scott woke up with a slight headache and his feet started to go numb. By late afternoon, the numbness was spreading up his legs, and he was having trouble walking. His wife Jen took him to the emergency room, and the numbness continued to spread through his chest and hands. He was transported to the hospital, and after a barrage of tests including a spinal tap, blood work, and an MRI of the brain and spinal cord, he was diagnosed with a sudden onset of Transverse Myelitis at the 4th thoracic vertebrae.

According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), the cause of transverse myelitis may be an infection or immune disorder that may damage or destroy myelin, the fatty white insulating substance that covers nerve cell fibers. Symptoms include pain, sensory problems, weakness in the legs and possibly the arms.

Scott’s journey is unknown. People afflicted with Transverse Myelitis may suffer permanent impairments that affect their ability to perform ordinary tasks of daily living. Some individuals will have only one episode of transverse myelitis; other individuals may have a recurrence, especially if an underlying illness caused the disorder. There is no cure for transverse myelitis.

Scott has been a licensed massage therapist in Connecticut for 19 years and has a strong sense of community. For the past 15 years, his private practice has been in a building that is not handicap accessible. He will need to leave his current location after he is discharged from the hospital and begin to face the challenge of how to begin to move forward.
It may take months or even years before he can walk independently, reopen his practice, and return to the career that he loves so much.

Scott’s fiercely independent spirit, optimistic outlook, and incredible sense of humor has kept his spirts high. He is the kind of guy that is always there for you for no matter what you need, whenever you need it! Now he needs you!!

When Scott went through yoga teacher training, he learned that support precedes action. With your financial support, Scott can get stronger, focus on his rehabilitation, contribute to his community, and be there for his wife Jennifer and their 4 beautiful children.

Funds raised will contribute to the growing hospital bills, continued outpatient treatment, modifications to his home, and help support his family. No donation is too small!

Please share this through your own community to raise Transverse Myelitis awareness.
