Scott Wessels' Medical Bills

Donation protected
You may not know me, but if you’re reading this, you probably know the man that I love, Scott Wessels.  He isn’t one to ask for help, so I’m asking for him.  Knowing how much he is adored by friends and family, I know this request will be met with overwhelming love and generosity.  Scott’s medical journey started many years ago before we met, but it continues today and unfortunately probably won’t be getting better.  His stroke in 2014 caused him to undergo five brain surgeries.  Two at Sanford and three at Mayo.  He deals with the aftermath of this daily with constant headaches, neuropathy and seizures.  Keeping his medication straight is quite a task!  Because of the lasting effects of his stroke, he was forced to go on permanent disability.  Yet, he continued to work as much as he was able.  Operating his own computer repair store by day and spinning records as a DJ by night.  He loves to work and didn’t want his disability to take that away from him.  But as we’ve all experienced, we have our plan, but God has another.  January 2018 he was diagnosed with CLL.  Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia.  Cancer of the blood. I know what you’re thinking.  Leukemia?  Cancer? Isn’t that fatal?  Well, yes it can be. Thankfully the type Scott has is slow progressing and can be treated.  However, it still affects him.  The main thing he needs to worry about is something as simple as the common cold.  Because Leukemia is an auto immune disease, his immune system is compromised.  So he has to be very careful about being around sick people.  Which is the main reason he decided to close his store in December 2018 after 15 years.  The risk was too great being around the public in a retail setting every day.  He continues to work on computers out of his home, but it will never be fulfilling as it once was.  He doesn’t get to see all his customers and talk with people like he used to.  This has been one of the hardest adjustments for him.  One of the side effects of CLL is the possibilities of other types of cancers.  Namely, basal cell carcinoma so his Oncologist suggested he get checked.  February 2018 he had a large carcinoma removed from his forehead.  Thankfully caught early enough that it hadn’t spread. Then a few months of no bad news.  Until his left side started to hurt and he could feel a large bump under the skin.  April 2019 he had numerous tumors removed from his left side.  Benign.  Hallelujah!  But the surgery was more invasive and the recovery longer than he wanted.  Through it all he has continued to receive several cortisone shots into his head every three months for the residual pain from the stroke.  Numerous ER visits, MRI’s, CT scans, ultrasounds and now surgery has left him with mounting medical bills.  As I said before, he never wants to ask for help.  Who does?  It’s hard to admit you’re struggling and when you don’t feel good it makes it even harder.  When you feel like you can’t do the work you love, it makes you feel hopeless.  I don’t want anyone to feel hopeless.  I know how much the Rock County community loves and appreciates all that he does.  Between tirelessly running the Luverne Area Chatter page, serving on the Relay for Life board, Rock County Fair board, Green Earth Players board, and the Southwest Minnesota Arts Council, he is such a blessing to this wonderful place we call home.  I just want to reach out and ask that we can bless him back when he needs us most.  Please consider donating whatever you’re able to.  Big or small, every gift will help him with his past and ongoing medical bills. We will post updates and pictures everytime a bill is paid off. Thank you in advance and God bless!
