Scott N. Schmitz Memorial Scholarship

In early August 2020, our family lost a beloved son, brother, and uncle. Scott Nicholas Schmitz lived life to the fullest, finding passion and happiness in all things mechanical and always looking to unravel the mystery of how things worked. Beneath Scott's brilliant mind and infectious smile was a long-suffered battle with depression, which ultimately stole him from us. We wish to honor and remember Scott by establishing a scholarship in his name at Washington State University (WSU) to help aspiring engineers achieve their intellectual aspirations.

Scott's mechanical aptitude began as a child when he fell in love with racing toy cars. This seed sprouted his curiosity for movement and functionality, which led him to receive a Mechanical Engineering degree from WSU in Pullman, WA, in 2016. Scott's fondest memories at WSU were his years serving as the Vice President and President of the Formula Society of Automotive Engineers and going to the 2016 Formula SAE at Michigan International Speedway. With the organization, he learned to prepare grant requests to finance the design and build of a single-seat race car. Scott's passion for engineering was palpable, and he sought to develop integrated mechanical solutions that could serve his communities.

We've set a goal of 25k to meet WSU's minimum requirement to create the Scott Schmitz Memorial Scholarship. Any amount you can donate towards establishing a scholarship in Scott's name and memory will be tremendously appreciated. We are targeting to provide funds to the university before the end of the Fall 2020 semester, so our scholarship will be available to award in Spring 2021. Thank you for your generosity, GO COUGS!
