Scootin' Shirley

Donation protected
When Shirley Byron was just 18 years old she was bit by a brown recluse spider and her whole world turned upside down.  Within one short month after being bit, Shirley's kidneys shut down!  She started on dialysis for 11 months and 11 days.  At 19 years old, Shirley had her first kidney transplant and it was successful.  Over the next 7 years Shirley and Jon got married and had their only son Jon Jr.  When Jon was just 2 years old it was discovered that he had a brain tumor, he had surgery and ended up being a perfect baby boy!  Just four months later Shirley's transplanted kidney rejected and she went back on to dialysis from 1997 - 2004.  On Feb 10th, 2004 she underwent her 2nd kidney transplant but this kidney ended up having kidney stones and caused lots of problems!  Exactly 2 years later they removed her transplanted kidney on Feb 10, 2006 and back on dialysis Shirley went!  In 2008 Shirley's body stopped producing red blood cells.  She has had graft problems, 11 different accesses that are all blown now!  She has no more accesses!  She is currently on CPD which is a continuous dialysis for 13 hours every night.  For the last 6 months she receives blood transfusions every 8-10 days to replenish those red blood cells that her body isn't producing.  Because of the anemia her body doesn't produce enough oxygen.  She has difficulty breathing, talking and moving.  When I was talking to her about this story, she was completely out of breath!
I am starting this fundraiser to help Shirley get a mobile chair that is lightweight and easy to manage.  It folds up nicely into the car and is very sturdy for her.  It's only 47lbs.  This chair would allow her to go out into the world and be freer to move about.  Family is very important to Shirley.  She wants to go with her family and enjoy activities with them and not be confined to home.
This woman has given so much to our community, here are a few of the accomplishments and volunteerisms that Shirley has done over the years:
*POW WOW Editor for 14 years (including setting up fields, publicity, sales, distributions, etc...) For you Gems out there!
*Volunteer of the Year at Jenny Lind Elementary in 2003
*Founder of the Reading is Fundamental Program at JLE
*Relay for Life Team (Stichers for Hope) raising over $300K for cancer
*United Methodist Youth Group Leader
*Calaveras Youth Soccer League - Soccer Coach
*Treasurer for JLE for 4 years
*Quilts of Honor for Wounded Warriors (making quilts for soliders)

*Librarian for the Dialysis Centers (keeping them stocked with reading materials for the patients)
*Participated and won 4 Gold Medals, 1 Silver Medal in the *National Kidney Foundation Transplant Olympics

For this woman who has done so much for others, let's give her a huge donation to buy her a beautiful mobile accessible chair for her to enjoy the rest of her life with her family and friends and not be confined to home!
This beautiful outstanding giver of a person deserves the best.  Let's help her reach this goal!
