“Scoot America” Fundraiser
I’m Alex Simon.
On April 24, 2021, I’ll start crossing 3,365 miles of America’s backroads - from Boston to Newport, Oregon - on an electric scooter.
Why?
My father was a prominent agronomist who spent his life advocating the protection of the environment.
When he passed away in November 2020, I realized that my own efforts in saving the planet were falling short. Very short.
I needed to do better.
I had to do better.
That’s when the idea for the cross-country trip was born.
The Purpose
The trip has one major purpose: let people know about the benefits of electric “micromobiles”.
Micromobiles??
Think small, electric vehicles that can be used to replace cars on short trips: electric scooters, eBikes and eSkateboards.
They are light, easy to carry and perfect for short distances.
With 50% of all car trips ranging 3 miles or less, micromobiles can easily alleviate traffic and reduce carbon emission.
So yes, they help save the planet!
The Route
The chosen route for the trip is Historic U.S. Route 20 - the longest road in America at 3,365 miles.
I'll be riding through some large cities – Boston, Cleveland, Chicago – but, mostly, I’ll be visiting hundreds of small towns along the way to promote micromobiles to the local population and the media.
The entire trip should last approximately 45 days.
How can you help?
This is a community effort. Not a one-person publicity stunt.
I’ll do the hard part: crossing the United States on my feet, riding a scooter for 6-8 hours each day.
But you can help me cover some of the costs. My main expenses are divided into:
- support vehicle rental
- trailer rental for the scooters
- support crew transportation (who are donating their time to help me get across the country)
- fuel
- motels/campgrounds
- meals
