Scoliosis Treatment for Libby

Libby was diagnosed with early onset idiopathic scoliosis in February of 2016 when she was just 7 years-old, by Dr. David Feldman at the Paley Institute in West Palm Beach, Florida.  Dr. Feldman was previously chief of Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery at NYU Langone Medical Center/NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York City before he was recruited by the Paley Institute.  Patients from all over the world travel to Florida for his care, as he is recognized as one of the country's leading experts in the conservative management of scoliosis.  

Through Schroth therapy, Libby's curve went from 18 to 11 degrees over the course of 2016.  However, since March, Libby's curve has increased by 17 degrees and is now at 29 degrees.  This is an abnormally high curve for an 8-year old.

What now?

Libby must wear a customized Rigo Cheneau brace for 18 hours per day.   This is a highly advanced device that provides individual scoliosis therapy.  This unique bracing system was developed by Dr. Cheneau and later improved by Dr. Rigo.  Libby's brace will be personally designed using x-rays and clinical photos.  Dr. Manuel Rigo in Barcelona is personally consulted on each case for verification of the patient's curve design.  

We are confident that Libby is getting the best possible treatment for her body to heal itself.  However we will accrue significant medical bills along the way.  In addition to what insurance covers, each brace is thousands of dollars out of pocket.  Because she is only 8 and growing so quickly, there is a very high likelihood that she will need a whole new brace in a year's time.  She also needs to travel to the Paley Institute regularly for medical follows up and Schroth therapy, unavailable in our hometown of Chattanooga.
