SciTunes educational website

As a classroom teacher, my students would often tell me that they found the songs that I wrote about science useful in exams. In fact, they regularly asked me to put their GCSE curriculum in song, but that takes a lot more time, money and effort than a classroom teacher is able to give, but I saw the benefit that these could have to millions of teachers and students around the country.

So, I left the classroom, and wrote a few songs with support from wonderful organisations such as the Stephen Hawking Foundation , the Royal Institution  and the Institute of Physics . I have managed to begin a journey of making my students' wishes a reality but there is much further to go.

So far, thanks to the support of these organisations, I have started SciTunes, an organisation devoted to helping teachers and students learn science through song. I have gone into schools to ask teachers and students how to make the best videos and resources, worked with disengaged students to find out how best to use song to engage them and I have teamed up with the brilliant Cosmic Shambles Network to make the first few videos, creating worksheets to help students make the most of them.

Unfortunately our funding so far has not stretched far enough to give them a proper home on the internet, where teachers and students can easily download them for free, or test their knowledge with interactive quizzes. A simple website exists, but not one that will be inviting for students and will allow to teachers to set homework and track their students results, saving them time on marking.

I want www.scitunes.org to become a place that saves teachers time, provides ready made lesson starters, plenaries, and homework, and is welcoming and easy to navigate for students too. It will have resources organised by topic and cover the entire curriculum.

To build this site, I need to raise £2400 and the sooner it is raised, the sooner students and teachers can use it. The resources are ready to go and if I can raise the money by the end of March, the site will be ready to help students revise for their GCSE exams over the Summer.

Your donation means a lot to me. Hopefully it will mean even more to GCSE teachers and students across the country.
