My name is Mrs. McGuire, and I am starting this fundraiser to raise money for my 8th-grade science students. There are about 210 8th-graders at Kaleidoscope Academy! We start our Earth and Space unit in November, and I would like to get them excited about the unit by taking them to the Barlow Planetarium. Between the cost of Barlow Planetarium tickets and transportation fees, each student will cost about $10. Many of our students experience financial insecurity, and $10 is a stretch or not feasible.
So why an in-person field trip and not a virtual field trip? Field trips offer so many benefits, including but not limited to: connecting real-world concepts to the classroom, reinforcing classroom lessons, allowing hands-on learning, and gives students life-long memories. If you recall your elementary and middle school experiences, I bet you remember the field trips you took. I recall visiting the dinosaur exhibit at the Milwaukee Public Museum, the Science Museum and Art Museum in Chicago, and many more. Field trips promote inquiry and encourage students to read. When students read, they build vocabulary, develop culturally, and so much more! Field trips are an investment on human capital and our future.
These 8th graders missed out on elementary school field trips due to COVID restrictions. I appreciate you giving any amount that you can. If you prefer to write a check, you can make it out to Kaleidoscope Academy and write "8th-grade science field trip" in the memo. You can send the check to Kaleidoscope Academy 318 E Brewster St. Appleton, Wi 54911. (Any excess funds will roll over to other 8th-grade field trips.)
Thanks again for investing in human capital!
