Since so many people have reached out to ask how they can help and support the Schultz family during this tragic time, we created this fundraiser.
During a round of destructive storms in Wausau, WI My grandparents, Don and Mary's home was struck by lightning, igniting a violent house fire at the retirement residence they called home for nearly 30 years. Mary and their son Don Jr., who lived there at the time of the fire barely made it out. Don Sr. on the other hand was not as fortunate. He was wheelchair bound and by the time Don Jr. was able to call 911 and get his mom Mary out, the smoke was overwhelmingly thick when he attempted to go back for him.
Mary lost her whole life in 2 minutes. She lost the love of her life of 68 years of marriage. She lost the place she called home. She also lost a lifetime of memories. Starting over at the age of 86 without a husband or home is completely daunting and overwhelming. Mary was the type of lady who saved every card that anyone gave her and would pull them out and read through them regularly, they are gone along with every other memory built over a lifetime.
Our hope is that the community can rally their prayers, love and support around her to lessen the burden she is facing at this time. The home is a total and complete loss. We are in the process of finding adequate housing for her as soon as possible, replacing everything from furniture to clothing. The funds will be used to offset anything insurance doesn't cover and to assist Mary in rebuilding her life.
Mary and Don were the couple that would give you whatever they could and help in any way they could. It is our hope that this can come full circle at this time of need and she can feel that she is not alone in this tragedy.
Any amount is greatly appreciated. The Schultz family is a family of faith, and even if you cannot give monetarily, prayers are appreciated just as much as any monetary gift.
As horrific as this tragedy is, we are thanking the Lord that two precious family members made it out safely, we couldn't imagine losing our whole family in a blink.
