Need
Families and students of J.T. Barber Elementary School in New Bern, North Carolina have been severely impacted by the destruction of Hurricane Florence. 90% of student families have lost their homes and everything they own.
There are 358 students in Pre-K through Fifth Grade and 95% receive free and reduced breakfast/lunch. Students lived in housing that was destroyed or apartments demolished and deemed uninhabitable. Most families are currently living in shelters and hoping to find affordable housing soon.
Provide
These children will come back to school in the next few weeks and will need things to help them recover psychologically and physically like:
Clothing (new or gently used for children ages 4-11), underwear, socks & shoes
Hygiene items (soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste)
School supplies (backpacks, spiral notebooks, pencils)
Linens (towels, sheets, blankets, pillows)
Non perishable food (canned food, applesauce, granola bars, peanut butter, crackers)

Amy Donahue, a first grade teacher at J.T. Barber and Counselor, Roxanne Wheeler, have shared these needs and stories for love of their students, school and community. New Bern natives, Aimee Ipock Allen and Courtney Pursell Fossett have teamed up with their schools, Wakefield Elementary and Huntersville Elementary respectively to collect any and all donations, both monetary and drop-off.
