School Supplies for Sue's Students

Hi everyone, and thank you for visiting this Go Fund Me page to raise critical funds needed to purchase supplies to be used in the 5th grade classroom of my dear friend, Sue Simone. Many of you may already know Sue Simone, from our days at KUCI, the student-run Radio station at the University of California, Irvine, where we forged so many close relationships that endure to this day. Sue has spent the past ten years of her career in the non-profit sector, always engaged in helping others and looking out for those less fortunate than herself. Recently, Sue has had to take a leave of absence from her job at a San Diego non-profit so that she could care for her seriously ill mother, who is now in hospice.  (Update: Sue's mother passed peacefully on Saturday 7/29, with Sue at her bedside).

In September, Sue will begin a new adventure, teaching a class of 5th graders at San Diego, CA-based Americas Finest Charter School, where a high percentage of students come from families with incomes below the poverty line.  What this means is that there is no funding for even basic supplies such as notebooks and pencils, which teachers are expected to pay for out of their own pockets. Sue is also charged with initiating a classroom library of 100 books appropriate for 5th graders. Timing is crucial as school starts in just over a month!

On behalf of Sue and her new students, I invite you to make a gift of any amount, which will go toward purchasing an array of necessary school supplies, basic learning tools, and her classroom library.
