Scholarships for Peacebuilders

Hello everyone,

We at the Austrian Study Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution (ASPR ) have made it our mission to support people to engage with conflicts in non-violent, constructive and sustainable ways.

Hence, since we started our 'International Civilian Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding Training Programme' we have trained more than 2000 people from all over the world in skills and knowledges for example around preventing or de-escalating violence, transforming conflicts peacefully or working on inclusive and sustainable peace.

45% of these participants identify as women and 48% come from the so-called Global South.

Now we want to enhance our commitment to inclusion within the thematic areas we offer, the participants we select as well as our aspiration to contribute to the personal and professional development of a diverse force of peacebuilders across the globe.

To fullfill these we are offering the first Master Class on 'Intersectional Gender Work and Peacebuilding' at the end of August 2019 with Gal Harmat, a prominent expert and educator around intersectional feminism, peacebuilding and gender.

We already have secured two scholarships for people who identify as part of the LGBTIQA+-community, as women and/or who have shown enthusiasm and outstanding commitment in the areas of gender transformative peacebuilding.

Another one of such outstanding individuals is Niranjan.

He is a queer Nepali educator and artist who has been inspired by Nepal's People's War (1996-2006) to engage with young students and teachers to strengthen awareness and commitments towards equal rights and opportunities. As part of this engagement he is managing Photo Kathmandu's  art education program with a team of educators and has recently coordinated the festival's 2018 Edition  putting the spotlight on gender, sexuality, identities, patriarchy and power. Together with a network of local activists and advocates he plans to offer more courses and programs around issues related to gender, identities and sexualities to promote sustainable peace and address new challenges.

We would love to award a full scholarship worth 1600 EUR to him, which covers tuition-costs, full-board accommodation and transfer from Vienna to the training location.

Your support and solidarity is very much appreciated!

PS: Should we be able to raise funds beyond 1600 EUR we have a waiting-list of further dedicated individuals! Pending their consent we'd be happy to introduce them and their work in future posts!
