Scholarship Fund Supporting our Local Youth

Donation protected
Donate to support our mission as we celebrate 20 years serving our community!
That’s right! The Institute for Girls’ Development has been providing services for girls, teens, young adults (cisgender, gender nonbinary, and transgender) and their families for 20 years! Our division serving all ages and all genders was established in 2021 and is Flourish Therapy and Wellness Center.
This year, we’re excited to be expanding our scholarship and reduced fee offerings with your help during these challenging times! The Institute is raising funds to help provide the following services to those who would benefit from them but need financial assistance:

• lower fee psychological services through our doctoral practicum program
• comprehensive assessments, needed to attain the right academic and mental health support
• empowering camps and workshops to support social and emotional learning in the areas of: maintaining positive friendships, communicating effectively, navigating conflict, creating a balance with social media, managing big emotions, learning stress-reduction strategies, and more

The Need

Mental health support should be available to everyone – regardless of household income. And levels of anxiety and depression, and the need for social and emotional learning opportunities, are on the rise.

Depression: In 2021, 42% of high schoolers reported “persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness,” up from 28% in 2011. In a recent survey by the National Institute of Mental Health, over 20% of teens had experienced at least one major depressive episode. Levels of distress and depression are particularly concerning for our LGBTQIA+ youth community. Depression is a serious mental illness that interferes with one's life and ability to function, and it can lead to suicidality. It can be treated with the right support such as psychotherapy.

Anxiety: Even before the pandemic, levels of anxiety were on the rise in the United States. And since the pandemic, we’re seeing an increase in all forms of anxiety – generalized, social, phobias, and more. Our team is well-equipped to help our clients increase their capacities to work with their anxiety, managing and thriving.

Social and emotional learning: Every year we offer some scholarships for those kids who would like to attend our summer camps, including Stand Up! Speak Out!® camp at Descanso Gardens. Contributions to our GoFundMe site will help us increase the number of scholarships available.
Who We Are: As a mental health organization, we are mission-driven – and everyone on our team is motivated to make a difference. While we currently offer Free Parent Webinars, and some scholarships for camps and services, we look forward to increasing scholarships and lower fee services here in our community to families who are eligible.

Your donations would allow us to fill that financial gap – creating scholarships that would be used for:

• lower fee psychological services
• comprehensive assessments, needed to attain the right academic and mental health support
• empowering camps and workshops
The Institute for Girls’ Development’s Mission

Girls, transgender and gender nonbinary youth, teens, and young adults face incredible opportunities and challenges as they grow. They’re full of questions about who they are, who they will become, and how they’re changing.

They seek answers within themselves, from their relationships, and from their communities.

Here at the Institute for Girls’ Development, we provide therapy, assessments, camps, and workshops to support and empower youth, teens, young adults, and families…. To find their authentic voices, to connect, and to thrive.

We’re dedicated to empowering individuals and their communities through:

• Hardiness Skills
• Mindfulness Approaches
• Self-discovery
• Embodied Living
• Growth-fostering Connections
• Empowerment

We offer caring, comprehensive, and innovative programs to inspire children and teens to use their voices to be stronger leaders.

The Institute is a psychological corporation, and not a 5013c. As such, your donations are not tax deductible. We thank you for your contributions!
