Schola needs our support.
Donation protected
Schola is a GIZ colleague, who has worked as a public health expert with GIZ since 2019. She is based in the remote town of Tanga and helps to improve the access to quality health care services for the population. Despite huge improvements in the health system in Tanzania, massive gaps persist.
For the past months Schola has experienced these gaps firsthand. Her husband, John, is seriously ill and needs a liver transplant. In early April 2023 John started feeling unwell. He frequently had fever, stomach discomfort, fatigue and later swelling of legs and jaundice. After several lab investigations and scans, John was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis which requires an urgent transplant. This operation is not available in Tanzania and the national health insurance doesn’t cover the cost for treatment abroad.
John is 41 years old, and the couple have two young sons, Jaden and Joel. The surgery will cost around 30,000 USD, a sum that the family cannot afford. Additionally, John and a cousin, who will donate a part of his liver, will have to travel to India for the surgery. The family has tried to mobilize funds from friends, relatives and colleagues in Tanzania, but still requires a lot more.
Helen and Tillman (colleagues in the GIZ health program) are supporting Schola to raise funds. We vouch that all funds received will be directed to only this cause.
Feel free to contact us with any questions via GIZ channels. If you would like to support, you can either donate through this website (roughly 3% of funds are paid to GoFundMe) or send money to us directly through PayPal or bank transfer (details will be provided upon request). In case the surgery cannot be conducted all funds collected will still be sent to Schola.
