Schmidt's Home Recovery

In September, while we were preparing for tropical storm Florence's arrival on the east coast, Typhoon Mangkhut was making its way through Guam with incredible force. The aftermath has left some families without habitable homes, my family (my parents and younger brother) being one of them.

Many of you know my parents and are familiar with the work that they do on Guam. They moved to Guam more than ten years ago to start a school. They continue to operate a little Christian school as well as a business there today.

After Typhoon Mangkhut made its appearance, my parents' home is unlivable. Emergency government aid has been requested, but so far they have not received a response except for the offer of shelter. Thanks to the generosity and graciousness of their business landlord, they are currently camping out in their business storefront until they can make the necessary repairs to their home.  

They are eager to get the ball rolling with repairs that will help their home become livable again. These repairs would address:
 
1) Water damage to the floors that has caused seeping

2) Water damage to the roof and ceiling, which causes it to sag and leak throughout the home

3) Water damage and mildew within the walls

The main goal is to replace the roof and interior walls. My parents estimate the cost of materials to come to $7,500. 

The nature of their business has also been impacted by the recent storm, so their finances may take some time to recover.
