Schenk & Oakwood Ave. Pocket Park

Donation protected
As many of you are aware, we've been working very hard for the past year to build a small "pocket park" in the empty green space located at the corner of Schenck Avenue and Oakwood Avenue. It all started with an idea and a couple of crayon drawings by my daughters that then led us to meet with City of Oakwood officials to launch this idea. The City hired an architect to design the park and after several revisions to bring the cost of the park down (it started at over $250,000), we've finally settled on one. I worked with the city to apply for a grant, which we were recently awarded and totals approximately $39,000! In addition, the city has agreed to provide funding for the fencing and on-going maintenance and landscaping. Further, an application for funding has also been made to the Oakwood Rotary.

With the limited money we have now, there will likely only be enough for some swings, an individual piece of play equipment and the necessary safety surface. Any other type of play structure or climbing apparatus we have been looking at will have to be deferred until Phase 2 next year.

That being said, the City would like to see additional funds come from fundraising efforts by the community.  That's where we come in!  If you'd like to see  a beautiful, safe place for our kids to play right in North Oakwood - please donate any amount!
