Scarletts SOAS Masters Fundraiser

I am dedicated and committed to my community and to giving people who don't have a voice the means to express themselves and be heard.

My work as both an Arts Practitioner and a Teacher has enabled me to work with young offenders, substance abusers, victims of gender violence and gifted and talented students from low socio-economic demographics. Growing up in what would have been considered a disadvantaged background,  enables me to empathise and inspire the people I work with to believe that with aspiration and support you can really become happy, healthy, contributing members of society.  I see my career continuing to work on a humanitarian level integrating teaching, healing and creativity with a view to lecturing and establishing an exchange programe and youth referral centre in the future. Achieving a place at the School of Oriental and African studies (SOAS) will enable me to do this. I need your help to make this work!

The target amount is the cost of my tuition fees over the next two years. All of the money donated will be paid directly to the university. I will continue to support myself and my son's living costs through my part time work in the community.

The MA in Global Creative and Cultural Industries at SOAS, will allow me to present my grassroots work with the community as a solid piece of research. It will also give me the opportunity to broaden my creative skills by allowing me to study more global forms of digital media such as television and radio broadcast - all with a view of sharing these practices with the young people who I create curriculum for. Having realised that I am more then a photographer or a teacher - I am excited about the prospect of returning to study with far more focus and drive to integrate my personal and professional experiences.

Despite my academic and professional success, I still have very little support from family and as a single mother there are as many challenges, as there are moments of joy. I believe that with the help of the you the public, I will be able to fully reach my potential and will pass the good will on through my continued work with our local and global communities.

Thank you for reading this and I look forward to sharing my progress with you all in the future.
