Scarlett's House: a sanctuary for senior dachshunds

Scarlett's House: A Sanctuary & Hospice for Senior Dachshunds

UPDATE 2/15/14:  We have decided against purchasing the 7 acres next to us. After much research, it has been determined the 7 acres is not suitable for building (it will not pass county regulations for a septic system).

We are proceeding with building something smaller on our own 5 wood acres. We hope to start building this spring!

This fundraiser is Phase 1 on our journey to create Scarlett's House. Our first step is to acquire 7 acres of wooded, vacant land which borders our 5 wooded acres.

Having volunteered and worked with dachshund rescues across the country for many years, we have witnessed rescue groups struggle with the number of senior dogs that end up in their foster care programs. While senior dogs make great pets, it is often the younger dogs who find their forever homes more easily.

Hosting seniors in foster homes is wonderful for the dogs, but because the senior dogs are slower to be adopted, they very often tie up a spot in foster care that could be filled and re-filled by more easily adopted dogs. Rescue groups have only a limited number of foster homes available. When there is no room in foster care, dogs die in shelters that euthanize for space.

It is our hope and vision to create Scarlett's House, a sanctuary and hospice for senior dachshunds, to help alleviate some of the "senior burden" that rescue groups and shelters face on a daily basis.

In the 21 years of business as Dachshund Delights, we have built a strong community among our customers and fans. We have seen first-hand how they come together to champion causes we carefully screen and bring to them for support.

Not only have we built a loyal and loving fan base, but our 21-years of experience in the pet industry gives us a Rolodex full of contacts, suppliers, and business relationships.

We truly feel all of our years in this business have brought us to this moment. We hope you will join us in this grand community effort to build Scarlett's House.

PLEASE NOTE: While Scarlett's House, Inc., has been established as a non-profit corporation with the State of Ohio, it will take several months to acquire 501(c)3 status at the federal level. Please understand your contribution is a gift and will not be eligible as a tax deduction.
