With a sadden heart, the Bencia family (Beatriz, Rocio, Julissa) are asking for your help!
Most of you know our wonderful, fun-loving, crazy sister, Scarlette. Recently, she shared with our family that she is in Stage II breast cancer. As most of you know, she lives with her family in Curitiba, Brazil - Marcos (husband), Noah (12 yrs old), and Marco (8 yrs old). Thankfully, the medical care is very good there and she will continue her treatment in Brazil. However, due to insurance changes at the school where she teaches, she is unable to afford all the medical procedures - exams, blood tests, surgery, chemo, and radiation.
At this time, she is having surgery the first week of September. The doctors are saying she has a 40% chance of radiotherapy and 50% chance of chemo but still are not sure until they get another biopsy of the tumor and look at a couple of lymph nodes where the cancer may have spread. She will be taking meds for 5 years to regulate her hormones.
That is all we know so far and will keep you all updated. We don't have a lot of answers right now but will post what we learn.
