Scarlett Hill Memorial Fund

Hi, I'm Melanie Soles, and this fundraising campaign is for my partner Jay Hill's daughter, Scarlett, who was seriously injured by a hit and run driver (going 45 mph) in downtown Greensboro last fall while Scarlett was walking on a crosswalk. The impact caused Scarlett to suffer a severe traumatic brain injury and strokes, along with physical fractures of her leg, pelvis, vertebrae, clavicles, jaw and skull. The driver was found and charged with Felony Hit and Run, but she was driving without insurance, without a drivers license and the car was not registered nor insured.

 

After spending six months in the hospital, our Scarlett passed away on Sunday afternoon, May 1st at 4:02 pm.  Moses Cone Hospital honored Scarlett with an unbelievably special Honor Walk as she made her way from the ICU room to the operating room for a massive organ and tissue transplant operation.

This fund has been established to help with her many tens of thousands of dollars of medical expenses, out of pocket nursing home costs, therapists, caregivers, equipment, funeral costs, etc.  A significant portion of the proceeds raised by Scarlett's GoFundMe will be donated in Scarlett's memory to HonorBridge, an organization devoted to building connections that save and heal lives through organ and tissue donation.  Scarlett was determined that she would make a difference.  Up to 88 individulas will receive organs, corneas and tissue from Scarlett's body.

The family will also find a way to to promote organ donation in Scarlett's memory.

For the Team Scarlett warriors, your prayers and support over the past six and a half months have meant so much to us, Scarlett's family, but also to Scarlett as we let her know the names of the people who have sent cards, messages and donations. It has been amazing to see the number of friends that have supported Scarlett emotionally, physically and financially throughout this journey.  Thank you to all.
