On 5/2/2017, Luca Grayson Scaramozza came into this world at 25 weeks at 1lb 12oz.
Although Carol & John were overjoyed with having their new baby boy, his timing was for sure unexpected, and has subjected not only this little man with major physical challenges, but also Carol and John, from an emotional, physical and financial standpoint. With all of the planning throughout the pregnancy with hopes for a seamless, full term delivery, nothing has quite prepared them for this scenario, and am not sure there truly is a way to ready oneself for this type of journey. Luca is here and our family could not be happier that as of today things are stable, but every day presents them with new challenges and issues to overcome, and as a family they have a long way to go. This was not how this family imagines they would start their first week as new parents but this is what was presented.
Although Carol and John have high hopes and great expectations, there has never been a more hopeless feeling knowing that you can be nothing more than a bystander (voicing every opinion and advocating for him as best you can while on-looking) while the staff provides him care. In any case, this family's new home is the NICU and they are told they have 10-12 weeks more to go as part of the NICU stay if all is well, and are starting to realize that his care is much more than originally anticipated, and could even be greater with the days to come given his prematurity, both while admitted, and with great hopes after he is allowed to come home. Carol is out of work spending the days with Luca which as you can imagine is a huge stress financially on the family. As they begin to learn more from his physicians, now knowing the challenges he will potentially face, and the exposures that they need to prevent him from encountering, this will lead to a home stay for Carol that is much longer than anticipated, added care outside of what a full term infant would require. Any prayers/well wishes and help is much appreciated. All donations will go towards the support for the Scaramozza family for daily needs as well as the future for Luca. The family would also like to be able to pay it forward to those charities that have been helping them along the way.
