Scaramella Family Memorial Fund

Tragically, on Friday Feb 9, 2018 my brother Darren Scaramella died suddenly from an accidental overdose of pain medication.  He left a loving wife, Whitney, and nine children ranging in ages from nine months to sixteen years.  The resources needed to support his family range from simply paying everyday bills and healthcare expenses to putting the children through college.  Collectively, these expenses are, of course, immense.  With the primary earner now gone, this family of ten is in financial dire straits.  So, we are humbly and gratefully asking for your help.

Darren battled Crohn’s disease, which caused frequent kidney stones for a number of years.  During the ensuing years he was provided ever-increasing amounts of pain medication.  Like so many others, he fell victim to the growing opioid addiction epidemic. The tragic consequences in this case are that nine children no longer have a father to nurture them, advise them or provide financial support, and a wife who is tasked with the tremendous burden of  raising of nine children alone.

My brother was a good and loving father and worshiped his children. He has been changing diapers since he was practically a kid himself.  He was a coach for his boys’ soccer team.  He taught them how to ride bikes, how to swim, ski and how to use the computer.  Like all dads he helped them with their homework, took them to birthday parties and made meals - times nine.  He took them on outings, went camping, hiking and built campfires for them in the back yard.  He was there for every grandma’s birthday, every Christmas, every birthday and every Christmas Eve.

I wanted to tell his story so that we may all fight to make everyone more aware of how the opioid crisis is devastating families like my brother's, and to ask for your support in whatever way you can in helping Whitney and her nine children through the challenges that lie ahead of them.

We've collected some more photos of Darren with his family here.
