My gorgeous healthy, sporty, funny son developed cystic acne aged 16 and his life changed overnight, we tried everything alternative, dietary, medical, consulted numerous leading dermatologist in the Uk and USA. They all came to the same conclusion that his only choice remaining was the strongest medication available that is essentially used for the treatment of cancer.
By now he was sitting his exams aged 16, the cysts had become so painful and regularly infected, they would burst and leak through his clothing, his bedding had to be changed daily and his clothes more than 3 times a day.
He seemed to have all the side effects and then some, he went blind for 10 mins 3 times , he became depressed, anxious, couldn’t sleep, was constantly cold, severe headaches which were in fact his brain swelling, several trips to the ER with these scary issues, finger nails coming off, dry cracking skin, painful dry eyes, teeth hurting, all whilst trying to continue his education, which suffered severely and he has lost all confidence, to go out, to see friends, no swimming in the river with friends, no sport incase his shirt rode up, or he got knocked and cyst burst, his life stopped.
Needless to say his has been the worst of times, as the cysts bursts they leave huge holes in his skin, that take forever to heal, each mark you see in the photo is a deep dark scar or now a hole.
The scar treatment that they would start first with would be a combination of laser therapy, snipping of the scar root and injections to stimulate healing, depending on how his skins responds depends how many rounds he needs.
We are now in the calm after the storm, however like any storm, we are now faced with the reality of what is skin looks like now, as a mother it is heartbreaking. He is rebuilding his life started back at college, he is still incredibly anxious about his skin and understandably so.
We were always told he would need extensive scar therapy, this is where you lovely people come in.
So in the first phase we are hoping to raise £2,000 to treat his chest area.
In the second phase we are hoping to raise £3,000 to treat his back.
Thank you for reading my sons journey and we hope you can help.
