*ALL PROCEEDS GO TO THE IMMEDIATE FAMILY*
On December 31st around 10:00pm, there was a mayday call from F/v Scandies Rose. The weather conditions were brutal. With 20-30ft waves, 50MPH winds, and a heavy freezing spray, the Scandies Rose was lost at sea. A search for the crew members spanned over 20 hours, and covered 1,400 square miles. Tragically, 5 out of 7 crew members were lost at sea. My name is Hailey Engstrom. My brother Lukas and I are raising money for the families that suffered this horrible tragedy. Our father, We Engstrom recently retired from the Scandies as the deck boss for 10 years, and with the company for nearly 20 years. Coming from a fishing family, this accident hit home with us extremly hard. Being involved with the memorial of The Destination, we felt there was something we had to do to help the families. I went up tendering in the bay summer of 2017 on the Retriever. We often tied up to the Scandies, and always partied in Hoonah, and Juneau. David is Captain Gary's son. David was one of the sweetest guys. He was innocent, and always tried to help me with my knots (even when I already had them down). Brock was hilarious. He always cracked jokes, and had the best laugh. Always laughing. He sounded like Woody the woodpecker. Captain Gary. One of the best fishermen out there. Salty as ever, but had a great passion for fishing. It was his one true love. Art was the engineer. Soft spoken, but a hard worker. That's what my dad always said. I didn't have the pleasure of meeting Seth, but this was sent to me by a family friend. “ Seth was always smiling and was always willing to try new things. We got to see him for Thanksgiving and he was excited about crab fishing in Alaska. That had been his dream for a long time. He will be missed by a lot of people.” As a fishing family, I know someone would do this for us. One fishing family, to another, we are all in this together. As the saying of the Scandies Rose, WHATEVER IT TAKES. Rest easy boys, you'll always be in our hearts and minds. Fair winds and following seas to our brothers and sisters heading out to sea.
