Volunteering in Peru & Costa Rica

Donation protected
I want to raise money for the three organizations that I will be volunteering with this fall: an orphanage in Arequipa, Peru, a shelter for teen moms in Cusco, Peru, and an after-school program in Playa Potrero, Costa Rica.

As a volunteer, I will be making a donation upon my arrival at each place. My goal is to raise as much as I can and split the total amongst all three programs. I hate hitting people up for cash but even $10 can make a bigger impact than you would think in these places!

To learn more about these charities, you can go here: http://www.remainfearless.com/charities/

All three of these organizations are young, grassroots efforts focused on specific needs in their local community. They receive no government funding and their only source of income is donations. I intentionally chose to spend time with each of them based on their needs and the opportunity to jump right in and get hands-on experience. That being said, I was always told not to judge a book by it's cover - so please don't judge these organizations by their websites/Internet-presence. They have a real legitimate need for help and any donations can go a very long way for them.

WHERE YOUR DONATION WILL GO:

1. Casa Hogar Luz Alba: Orphanage in Arequipa, Peru
First & foremost, they need to build a new orphanage. So the majority of donations are used towards the construction of the new home. However, some donations will be given directly to the Manager of the orphanage who will use the money for whatever the children/current facilities need (diaper, milk, food, rent, etc). Another small portion will be used for the Learning Centre to pay bills or buy necessary equipment.

2. Casa de Agocida Mantay: Shelter for Teen Moms in Cusco, Peru
Mantay is quite similar to Casa Hogar Luz Alba in terms of needs & lack of resources. Their facilities are clean and typical of housing in a low income neighborhood of a Peruvian city - not something most of us Chicagoans are used to. They need all the help they ca get and donations are put towards the daily maintenance/running of the home (rent, facility bills, food, toiletries, clothing, etc) as well as resources for education for both the children and their teen mothers.

3. Abriendo Mentes: After School Program in Playa Potrero, Costa Rica
$5 = Two weeks of class worksheets
$10 = Bag of fertilizer for community garden
$25 = Sponsor one student's class materials for the year
$50 = Provides art materials for 1 month of creative projects
$300 = Fund a teacher's salary for 1 month
$500 = Sponsor a learning field trip for 50 children
$1000 = Buy 2 computers to aid in creation of learning lab

ANY & ALL HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!! THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ THIS! :)
