Help Ted Samson Beat Cancer

As many of you know, my dad was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in August. The tumor started on his pelvic bone while some of the cancer cells spread to his lower back. Since this is a bone pain- or bone marrow- related illness, his spine has progressively compacted causing him a difficult time to walk, get up, or sit down. Any movement is like pins and needles attacking his body. His company also declared back in January that they’re going out of business in November. My dad signed up for short-term disability and FMLA to not lose his severance pay as soon as the cancer started making him less functional. This was all in the midst of his blood tests, x-rays, MRIs, and biopsy in August and September. 

Luckily, my mother works from home helping take care of him, but she cannot do this alone. I am also trying to help from afar as I keep working full-time in Arizona and possibly go back to Missouri soon.

Last Monday, October 9th, my dad was admitted to the hospital due to shortness of breath, fever, and rashes. Some of these were caused by his reaction to his radiation therapy and his lack of an immune system. His chemo and 4-month research trial have been held back due to these side effects. 7 Days and counting, he is in great care at Menorah Medical Center in Kansas.

Trying to take care of my parents’ situation independently these past few months while health insurance not covering all costs, I am overwhelmed. Asking for help and pouring my feelings online are not my niches, but I have never been this desperate in my life. It’s so heartbreaking to see my diligent, persistent father be in so much pain. He is the first man who has loved me unconditionally as well as the biggest provider for my mother and I.

Please help.
