My family and I have been overwhelmed with the love and kindness expressed at our saddest time.
This is mum's story.
Mum was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on September 13th and went to sleep on April 13th.
Mum had just started to enjoy life again after the death of her own Mum and had a list of things she wanted to achieve. She had recently learned how to drive and was gaining more confidence and freedom at the wheel. Her weight loss journey was a great success and her self confidence was growing, she was almost ready to start dating again. She had been poorly for a while so working was difficult but was looking into gaining new qualifications to start a new adventure.
Mum loved spending quality time with her 2 young grandsons who she adored, she was truly their best friend and biggest fan celebrating their successes no matter how small with glowing pride, she leaves behind many who love her dearly.
Mum never got to finish her list because she got too ill too quickly. Chemo was very difficult and she struggled with side effects, at every corner she met an obstacle, she faced every one of them with fierce determination. Whenever she was knocked down she pulled herself back up again with a "let's do this!"
Mum's condition got worse after she was unable to have chemo over christmas, confronted with infection after infection, the cancer was unforgiving. She went into hospital about 6 weeks ago where she only got worse. The plan was to make everything ok at home and bring her home to be comfortable. The day mum was meant to come home her symptoms were too bad and we didn't know how to cope without help, she decided to go to the hospice for a little while to get strong enough to come home.
She only grew weaker in the hospice and a week later she passed away. We got to share one more nice day together in the conservatory of the hospice, her bed was wheeled in and we listened to Madonna looking out at the gardens, she tried to sing and dance a little, it was beautiful. We wanted to do so much more before she passed but that conservatory was the best we could do.
The last text we received from our mum was .. guess what I'm coming home today!
She never did make it home.
My family and I would like to make mum's funeral as beautiful as she was and we will need some help to make this possible. If you are in a position to do so we would like to accept donations in lieu of flowers, you will not only be helping us but you will be ensuring mum gets the service she deserves, helping us bring her home.
Mum's funeral will be on the 3rd of May at 2pm at Hanworth crematorium, wake to follow location is undecided. EVERYONE is welcome it would be wonderful if we could fill the room for her.
