Say NO to child homelessness

There are over 50,000 kids roaming the streets of Sierra Leone, these boys and girls are homeless and hungry, they are been used and abused, girls are used as sex slaves and trafficked, they are impregnated and abandoned, boys suffer almost the same fate.

Street children as young as six work in markets, washing dishes or carrying heavy loads, for which they are paid a small amount or fed a bowl of rice. They sleep under bridges, under market stalls or in abandoned cars. Many catch malaria or die from pneumonia.

Others beg or are employed by older street boys, the ‘bras’, who organize gangs of pickpockets and thieves. During the war, thousands of boys recruited as child soldiers were made to sniff cocaine ahead of battle to numb their fear. Today, gang-leaders force street boys to take drugs before stealing.

Every penny raised from this gofundme campaign is going towards building a homeless shelter, which will be equipped with a school, dormitory, mini health care center for boys and girls.

Every Sierra Leonean both in the diaspora and at home have recognised that this is an epidemic and needs to be nipped in the bud.
