Birthday Fundraiser for Suicide Prevention

Over a year and a half ago, after I moved into my first (and only) college dorm, I settled into the building common room for the first official floor meeting. Though I was surrounded by strangers and weary faces alike, I heard the pounding of my heart as it threatened to beat out of my chest. That was until I met the eyes of someone whose smile and laugh had the power to make anyone feel safe and seen.
Through our study groups, surprise meal dates, and jam sessions, I got to experience firsthand Cesar's charisma, generosity and boundless kindness. Without knowing, he helped me restore my faith in myself, rekindle my love for music, and provided all of us with his support and friendship.
However, about a year ago on December 4th, 2019, Cesar took his own life just a few rooms down from me.
As I sit here with a heavy heart, I can't help but just feel blessed to have known Cesar Caballero. Though the circumstances are unfortunate and heartbreaking, I choose to remember him for his light, love and selflessness.
That's why, for my birthday in December, instead of expensive gifts, I want to encourage you to donate to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to honor Cesar and his legacy of kindness.
