On 7/29/2016, my boyfriend's ex girlfriend was found passed out in the driver's seat of a truck, facing the wrong direction on the road. She was high on drugs, and was in the process of breastfeeding his 3 year old daughter, Raelynn, when she passed out. She was taken to jail, but got out on a pretrial bond. We have obtained temporary emergency custody of Raelynn, and have had her drug tested. She tested possitive for cocaine. When we went into court for the emergency custody hearing, Raelynn's mother tested possitive for multiple drugs, on top of the cocaine. She lives with her parents, and they are fighting us for primary custody of Raelynn. We want her mother to get better and have a relationship with Raelynn, but we feel that it's best that Realynn remain in our care. We have attempted to reach out to Raelynn's grandparents to express our concerns for her health and well being, but have always been shot down. At 3 years old, Raelynn is only 21 pounds, and her teeth are falling out. She can’t have any dental work done, because she is too underweight to be put under sedation. Our pedatrition has recommended speech, physical, and occupational therepy for Raelynn. She doesn’t speak very much, and she eats like crazy everytime we've had her for visitations. When she visits us, she's so lethargic that we often have a hard time waking her up. We can't prove how long Raelynn has been subjected to drugs, but believe it's been this way for a long time. In 2014, when Raelynn was 9 months old, her mother locked her in a car in front of cvs. A concerned citizen called the police and stood by the car for over 15 minutes. The police had to go inside the store to find her mother. She was looking at the names on Coca Cola bottles, and was oblivious to how long Raelynn had been in the car. Raelynn was taken to the hospital, but then given back to her mother. We weren’t contacted, and had to find out about it through a friend. The mother has somehow avoided any type of legal repercussions. This is the 4th time Child Protective Services has been involved, in 2 years. We have expressed our concerns to them, but very little has been done. We have contacted the police multiple times, but do not have enough evidence to have Raelynn removed from the home. Raelynn's mother has failed to provide us with the necessary medical documentations, which would allow us to be able to take her to the doctor, when she visits us. Currently, Raelynn's mother is not only trying to regain custody of Raelynn, but is also trying to take away our visitation rights
We have been fighting for custody since the first incident, but the legal fees are too great for us to continue for much longer. We have 3 other children in our household, and my boyfriend is the sole provider.
We are trying to raise enough money to pay for all of the legal fees, to continue fighting for custody. We have emptied our savings, maxed out our credit cards, and borrowed as much as we could, but it's still not enough. It cost us just over $10,000 to get emergency custody of Raelynn, and will cost atleast that much to fight for primary custody. We are scared that if we can’t come up with the money, we will lose her.
When Raelynn was first given to us, she only had the clothes on her back, and a stuffed doll. In the 2 weeks that she's been in our custody, she has already gained a pound and a half in weight, and has begun speaking more. She is starting to get over some of the withdrawels, and the temper tantrums that go along with them.
Please help us raise enough money to make sure that we can keep this precious little girl, and provide the environment that she deserves. No child should have to go through what she has.
