This is a fundraising for Maryam Aaleen Zahra Ali(goes by Moco), aged 10 who suffers from a rare genetic condition called Crigler Najjar Syndrome.
Crigler Najjar is a life threatening condition which affects the liver and blood cells. Severity of the condition can lead to brain damage. A short term cure for containing the disease is light treatment (phototherapy) needed throughout a person's life until the transplant. The ultimate cure is a liver transplant. Moco has been in phototherapy since infancy and has battled the disease for 10 years "“ a miraculous time period, thanks to her mother's relentless efforts of providing her the best medical care she could afford and photo therapy regime in Pakistan. However in the last two weeks, Moco's condition has deteriorated rapidly, she has been in and out of hospital for all kinds of procedures including blood transfusions. The only cure to save Moco now is a stem cell transplant.
She is in need of support and funds from all of us. Please donate, spread the word, contact any corporate and other personal donors you think would help. The rarity of the disease means many people are not familiar with its severity and corporations do not want to fund it. Any channels you can think of would be most helpful. The procedure is estimated at around £120,860 ($191,090).
Moco has been extremely brave and mature in battling her condition, coping with school despite diminished intellectual ability, being patient with all the invasive medical procedures and most importantly understanding the solitary struggle of her mother. For those of us who know Fatima, this has been an uphill climb for a single mother with very little support for the last 10 years. Previous transplant options in China and India did not materialize because of lack of funds. It would be our biggest failure if Moco cannot go through the procedure because of money, we can't let money decide her fate again. Please participate actively, this is our last chance so let's give it our best shot.
