HIV/AIDS ADVOCACY FOR SENIORS (FILM)

Donation protected
Imagine hearing that during a routine surgical procedure that your best friend's mother finds out she has HIV at 70 years old?  I know how devastating it is to get an awful medical diagnosis since I got a diagnosis for Lupus at the age of 24.  Lupus like HIV/AIDS is not curable but unlike HIV/AIDS it is not ostracized.  Also, imagine if that was your mother, how you would feel that there is a deafening silence around her diagnoses?

This is personal to me because that best friend's mom could have been MY active single 70 year old mother.  How many of us ignore the fact that our parents' are dating and sexually active?

A little statistic, if you would permit me - In 2011, people aged 50-54 represented 47% (3,951) of the estimated 8,440 HIV diagnoses among people aged 50 and older in the United States.

In 2011, people aged 50 and older accounted for 24% (7,771) of the estimated 32,052 AIDS diagnoses in the United States.

The increase in HIV/AIDS amongst senior citizens is due to the advent Viagra and hormone replacement therapy. Add to the mix a much more liberal attitude about sex from baby boomers-including dating people much older or younger and the popularity of online dating services-and the jump in the rate of STDs among older folks and the need for precaution and preventative methods becomes clear.

Health care experts have said initiatives must be developed to assist older adults in coping with an STD.  I want to be part of that initiative to begin much needed dialogue.

This is why I want to make this film.  I want it to be the gong that sounds the alarm on this issue. This is why I am calling on you...my family, friends...my village work with me, help me bring this film to manifestation.  Help me bring this issue to light.
