Saving Cats & Kittens in Michigan

Spende geschützt

Ebony got her tail injured & it was severely infected. We took her to have the amputation surgery and kept her for 2 weeks until the surgery site healed and fur began to grow back on her tail. She was happy to return to her colony for a long happy life ahead.

Its a heartbreaking job, but somebody has to do it.. save these kitties from starvation, disease, worms, & freezing weather. They are sooo sweet, not a wild animal, just very afraid of what is going to happen to them.
Last Winter I was minding my own business when I found a dead kitten, frozen to death.. and when I looked around a bit I found 2 more small cats searching a dumpster for food. They were so cold and hungry that when I returned a few days later they didn't think twice before diving into my live trap after some wet cat food.
Hurray! Problem solved!
....... ummm not hardly.

We named the first cat Mumma since she had obviously been nursing kittens recently.
Hmmm....
Maybe there is another kitty freezing and starving to death, I better set that trap once more.. Bingo, this one we call Handsome Herby.
Twice more... oh yes.. Baby Binky and his big sister Cookie will be warm tonight and have a full belly, yeah!
12 cats were caught between January and April 2014.

First I fed them, then straight to the Humane Society to be neutered and vaccinated, de-wormed and flea protected.
Then off to a foster home to stay warm while they learn to trust humans, and gain some weight.

I hate to ask for money, and I know everyone works hard.. but I simply can't do it alone. These little critters are not wild. They did not ask to be born outside in an 8 degree snow storm, and they are so grateful for a little food and a soft blanket to curl up next to the heat register.

How is it fair that they should suffer every day, being pelted by rain, scared to death in a thunder storm with only some branches to protect them, frozen for 5 months out of 12, and never knowing when they will eat next? The least we can do as compassionate humans is to vaccinate them (because they are living outside with raccoons & skunks & possums that can carry diseases), and let the poor females stop having litter after litter of sick kittens, and give them a place to be warm and dry and have a meal every day.

I have spent literally thousands $ on the cages, food, blankets, veterinarian services, and litter & supplies for these innocent little fellas, and 300 cats have been rescued with 80% of those adopted into homes, and 20% that were feral returned to managed colonies outdoors.

There are so many more colonies of cats that need to be sterilized to stop the suffering and death of more and more kittens. Colonies of hungry cats are a nuisance to nearby homes, and they are at risk of being abused or killed by humans who aren't as kind as we are.

I can't afford to keep them all, and foster homes are perpetually filled, so WE NEED FOSTERS. Just a spare bedroom, office, or bathroom will do the trick.
Many are tame, and all need love.  Approximate foster time for a cat from rescue til adoption is two months.

Stevie was adopted when he was a small kitten by a kind family who help by feeding an entire colony of cats every day and giving the cats a safe place to live on their property.
Bambi was adopted by a young lady named Michelle, and she is loved and cared for too.
Please help us save many many more innocent cats.
Once they are neutered then hundreds of lives are saved by preventing reproduction. There is a lot of time, effort, and money needed for each stray cat that we trap, but we feel that the cost is well worth the reward.. a safe, healthy, warm, well fed little furry friend that won't be making more strays.
