Takoda

On Monday the 8th of June 2020 a very lame young unhandled horse come into our care. We suspected he had a painful condition called laminitis and was evident he had lice. The following day this was confirmed by our vet. He was given immediate pain relief, lice treatment and a sedative to help our farrier take a look at his overgrown hooves. The vet also took a poo sample for an egg count which later come back as high. We have since treated him for worms.

The next day was the start of a long emotional and tiring reality and a devastating discovery. Our farrier found a untreated maggot infested infection deep into the hoof. I have videos of graphic content and have added a few of these in the updates. The vet was called out immediately.

After 4 horrendous hours, of details I shall post in due time, this horse was put back into his stable to rest. 

On the 11th of June his owners surrendered ownership and this horse will now have a forever home with us on the farm. We renamed him Takoda which means ‘happiness and friend to all’ 

Happiness is what I have promised. We have the best team and each and everyone have had their hearts stolen by this kind soul. Takoda will need continued care and we hope will get better day by day.

This appeal is to reach out to our family and friends. Takoda needed emergency treatment and his expenses are adding up. His costs are not covered by our own equine insurance. Due to Covid-19 our additional emergency funds pot is limited. We fully appreciate since lockdown was announced everyone is struggling but every penny donated we can assure you will be a relief and I personally will be eternally grateful.
