Help Me Help My Little Sis

Donation protected
As many of you know this last year has been rough on the Weitman family. We lost our father 11 months ago unexpectedly at the age of 56. Now we are facing another heart wrenching situation. I am asking all of you to help protect my little sis. Racheal has Squamous Cell Carcinoma with involvement of Endocervical Glands. With that she also has High Grade Squamous Intraepithelial Lesion (HSIL) (CIN3) (Severe Squamous Dysplasia/Squamous Carcinoma in SITU) with involvement of Endocervical Glands on all of her biopsies performed thus far. This basically means where there isn't Cancer yet there will be very soon. It is to the extent that procedures such as LEEP are not an option for her. Currently she is also battling Type II Diabetes which puts her at even greater risks. Her doctor is concerned about reoccurrences in the ovaries, which given our family history with this type of cancer (we lost our grandmother and two aunts, and have a cousin that was diagnosed in the last 2 years) coupled with her other risk factors would surely be a death sentence; it would metastasize quickly to her lymph nodes and/or lungs which is responsible for most of the family deaths. Having been given this diagnosis at age 35 it is highly likely without intervention, she will not survive. Did I also mention that she is a mother of 4, and cares for her terminally ill husband as well? She is loved and needed like you wouldn't believe.

She needs a full hysterectomy (including ovaries). Sadly after much debate and arguing with the insurance company they are not willing to pay for the ovaries being removed as there is no cancer in them at this time. The only way they will pay for it is if she can prove this likely path with a test result showing she has the corrupt gene(s). Myriad (the company that does the test) is trying to find some options to help with the cost but it is not likely in the time she has. Her doctor says she will need to be in surgery no later than a month from now, even if she has to go with the partial hysterectomy that the insurance company will pay for. This is not the best option for her because even with close monitoring the doctor may not catch the cancer in the ovaries before it metastasizes. Myriad is holding her sample for testing in hopes that we are able to pay for the test and get the surgery she needs. We need your help and support to come up with the money to perform this test and provide funds for co-payments, transportation, medications, and after surgery care. She will likely be unable to perform normal activity for at least 3-6 months after this extensive surgery.

If everyone we know and everyone you know donated what they could, we could make a huge difference to the health of my sister and save her family from more heartbreak. Please pass this along to everyone you know. Thank you for your time, love, and support. It is not always easy to ask for help, but we sincerely need it.
