<div>My name is Danny Taurozzi. I was a volunteer caregiver at the Parliament Hill Cat Sanctuary in Ottawa. When the sanctuary closed in early 2013, I ended up adopting two of the feline residents. (Coal, the youngest feline, and Spot). Spot has since passed away, leaving Coal to be the last surviving former resident of the Parliament Hill Cat Sanctuary. The gentle charismatic black male feline with a heart of gold lives in forever home in Ottawa. I consider him family.

<div>Recently, Coal’s physical rehabilitation specialist (Nancy Couillard from Go Pet Mobile Rehab) discovered a small lump on his head, he was seen within days by his family doctor (Dr. Dana Clark of the VCA Canada Alta Vista Animal Hospital). after a comprehensive series of tests Dr Clark requested a pathology report. (The medical investigation included a physical examination, bloodwork, urinalyses, X-rays, aspirate…) Pathologist Dr. Ida Piperisova (ANTECH Diagnostics in the USA) indicated that the microscopic findings are “Supportive of carcinoma…” In her comments, the pathologist suggested that; “…the atypia observed within the epithelial cells warrants the designation as malignant-carcinoma. Consider adnexal/hair follicle origin (e.g. basal cell carcinoma), ceruminous carcinoma or a metastatic lesion.”

<div>After consultation with Dr. Clark and specialists at Capital City Specialty &amp; Emergency Animal Hospital), it was determined that Coal should have surgery to remove the cancerous growth. But, because of a newly discovered arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat), the feline patient was first seen by cardiologist Dr. Chris Whipp (Capital City) for an echocardiogram. Following the cardiology evaluation, Coal was cleared for general anesthesia.

<div>The next steps are for Coal to have a CT scan under sedation, followed by surgery the same day to remove the mass. The surgeon, Dr. Jess Biskup, (also with Capital City) advised that. because of the location of the growth, part of Coal’s outer left ear and canal may have to be removed. This would cause the the feline patient to be deaf in that ear.

<div>Coal is receiving the best medical care possible, but the bills are staggering. The deductible, co-insurance, and out-of-pocket expenses are quickly adding up (thousands of dollars). <div>Je m'appelle Danny Taurozzi. J'ai été bénévole au Sanctuaire de Chats de la Colline du Parlement à Ottawa. Lorsque le sanctuaire a fermé au début de 2013, j'ai adopter deux des félins qui y résidaient. (Coal, le plus jeune félin, et Spot). <div>Récemment, la spécialiste en réadaptation physique de Coal (Nancy Couillard de Go Pet Mobile Rehab) a découvert une petite bosse sur sa tête. Il a été examiné dans les jours qui ont suivi par son médecin de famille (Dre Dana Clark de la VCA Canada Alta Vista Animal Hospital). Après une série complète de tests, Dre Clark a demandé un rapport pathologique. (L'enquête médicale comprenait un examen physique, des analyses de sang, des analyses d'urine, des radiographies, une aspiration...) La pathologiste, Dre Ida Piperisova (ANTECH Diagnostics aux États-Unis), a indiqué que les résultats microscopiques étaient « en faveur d'un carcinome ». Dans ses commentaires, la pathologiste a suggéré que : « ...l'atypie observée dans les cellules épithéliales justifie la désignation de carcinome malin. Envisager une origine annexielle/du follicule pileux (par ex. carcinome basocellulaire), un carcinome cérumineux ou une lésion métastatique ».

<div>Après avoir consultations avec Dre Clark et les spécialistes du Capital City Specialty &amp; Emergency Animal Hospital, il a été décidé que Coal devait subir une intervention chirurgicale pour retirer la tumeur cancéreuse. Cependant, en raison d'une arythmie (rythme cardiaque irrégulier) récemment découverte, le patient félin a d'abord été examiné par le cardiologue Dr Chris Whipp (Capital City) pour un échocardiogramme. Après l'évaluation cardiologique, Coal a été autorisé à subir une anesthésie générale.

<div>Les prochaines étapes consistent à faire passer à Coal une tomographie (CT) sous sédation, suivie d'une intervention chirurgicale le même jour pour retirer la masse.
