Pet owners alike can agree that their furry friends are undoubtedly considered members of the family. For many, they provide joy, comfort, and loyalty and want nothing more than to love and be loved by you. Johnnie (now Cub) is a sweet 9-week-old puppy who was given a second chance at life after being rescued from an overpopulated high kill area in rural Mississippi by an amazing organization. For Ashley and Tom, it was literally love at first sight. They knew he was the missing piece of their puzzle, and couldn’t have been a more perfect fit for Johnnie’s forever family. Tragically, he has fallen victim to Parvo, one of the deadliest and most expensive viruses to treat. Within days, this fun-loving puppy became almost lifeless in the arms of his new young parents. Ashley and Tom, two incredibly awesome law students, are so enamored with their new family member & have literally done everything they can to keep him alive, which resulted in a rushed visit to the emergency vet where he has remained in 24/hr critical care for the last 4 days. News came quickly that 4 of his 9 littermates were lost due to this horrible virus, and they refuse to let Johnnie be number 5. Yesterday, they were given the option to euthanize or commit to more intensive and costly treatment, with the hopes of a miracle. With their current medical bill upwards of $10,000, they committed to one last chance. With a slim chance of one more nights survival, Johnnie has defied the odds and proven he is not ready to give up his fight yet, he made it through the night! While his condition remains critical, the vet noted that if he survives he still has a long way to go, making their unanticipated expense one of unimaginable proportions within a one-week period.
