Saving Hagrid

Tax deductible
We are asking for your help to save a beautiful little kitten called Hagrid. Hagrid is 4 and a half months old and has always been a happy healthy kitten. He has been at Redgate since he was 10 days old after coming in with his mummy, brothers and sisters as he was born in someone’s conservatory.

He has lived with us ever since and went in for his routine neutering operation at the vets almost two weeks ago. As with any operation there is a chance that anaesthetic can have negative affects on the body. When Hagrid was in recovery after his operation he went into cardiac arrest but was brought back around by the wonderful vets. This has resulted in Hagrid having some brain damage from this traumatic event, when he regained consciousness he was blind and unable to move or function himself. Eventually he started to regain enough strength to swallow food through a syringe and urinate without a catheter. He was still in a dangerous state but he managed to improve enough to stand up by himself and lick wet meat out of a bowl.

We made the decision after 3 days for a staff member to take him on as a foster to give him as much one on one recovery time as possible. We were told by the vets that we could try to make an improvement with him for 4 days and if there was no change he would have to be put to sleep.

He received massages every couple of hours along with a little exercise routine to keep his limbs moving and his muscles stimulated. He eventually built up the strength to eat chunky meat and after lots of gradual build up and encouragement he started to eat biscuits. His mobility started to improve to the point where he can walk around the room numerous times before needing a break. Thankfully the vets agreed that his quality of life is improving so we can continue to work with Hagrid! Unfortunately he is still blind although his pupil dilation has started to improve under various lighting so we are crossing our fingers that he may regain some vision!

We have very expensive bills to pay for the vet treatment that Hagrid has received so far and we want to continue to give him the best care that we possibly can! We are asking for your help to support this loving little boy as he still has a long road of recovery ahead of him! We feel that he deserves the chance to live a happy healthy life as he once did. Despite all of the pain and struggles he has had to deal with in the past two weeks, he is such a little purr machine and he absolutely loves to snuggle!
We support hundreds of cats each year and we couldn’t help kittens like Hagrid without your help.

Please help us us to save Hagrid!!
