Bentley’s story

On August 12, 2018 Bentley, my 3yr old male Pomeranian was seriously injured. The man I was renting a room decided to take Bentley with his two dogs for a walk, while I was at work. I left Bentley safe in my room before leaving for work.
On the walk he stated Bentley was run over by a kid on a bicycle, causing Bentley’s eyes to bulge out of the eye sockets and contusions on both lungs. The kid kept going and he was unable to chase because of Bentley injuries.

Dr. Weigt Ophthalmologist:
Ophthalmic exam reveals the left is deviated to the side due to a tearing of the extraocular muscle in the corner of the eye. Left eye the rupture but it has healed. Bentley has a significant amount of blood and inflammatory debris in the left eye and is not visual. The right eye is not currently visual. There is a dorsal retinal detachment and blood in the vitreal chamber. Dr Weigt believes he will not regain vision in the right eye, But we need to give Bentley time. It is possible the blood behind the retina will resolve.
The left eye may have to be removed. He needs time to heal in a long contusions need to heal before he has placed under anesthesia.
Bentley has an appointment for a recheck on Monday.

Bentley’s eye appointment check-up 8/20:
Fluorscein Stain recheck results: right eye normal - left eye abnormal.
Dr Weigt states Bentley is doing much better, he has less pain in the right eye and the eye is coming along nicely. The left eye still painful but ulcer is healing and she hopeful with continued medication and care that he may not need the left eye removed the ulcer is healing. Bentley has a significant amount of blood and inflammatory debris in the left eye and not visual.
The right eye is not currently visual. The is dorsal retinal detachment and blood in the the vitreal chamber. She thinks it is not likely going to regain vision, but we need to give Bentley time to heal. It is possible that the blood behind the retina in the right will resolve.

It may be that Bentley needs to have the left eye removed, he is doing so well she wants to give him more time to heal..

Bentley’s lungs sound unremarkable and the lung contusions are healing perfectly❤️❤️❤️

I have all the confidence in Dr. Weigt and her plan for Bentley letting him heal not rushing him to surgery to take his eye is the best thing for Bentley. I’m very grateful for her and she has an outstanding reputation!

Bentley next appointment is Sept 17, 2018 with Dr. Weigt. She will reevaluate his eyes and if the left eye has not healed it will have to be removed.

My heart is breaking for Bentley, so overwhelming.. I was informed 8/16 two days after Bentley’s accident by the man I was renting a room has put the house on the market and he will be moving out at the end of the month to an apartment. So on top of taking care of Bentley, his upcoming surgery, I have to find a new place to live.

Already has been paid $3096.29 from the donation for Bentley’s vet care and I still need your help!! I’ve had no help finding the kid by the one person that witnessed the accident, and he has not offered to help with any of the medical expenses. The estimate for his eye surgery is $2500-$5500 plus check-up appointments.

$4202.73 after GFM fees
-$3096.29 medical bills paid
$1106.44 GFM funds left over

I don’t think most people would ever be financially prepared for what has tragically happened to Bentley. I live check to check like most of us do and I need help with his vet care. I have no children so Bentley is my child, heart and life.
I wish it was me, not my Bentley!!! He is the best sweetest loving boy!!
