She spent months in hospitals in Ukraine and the U.S. before her eyes were saved.
Now, 15 years later, scar tissue has grown in her eyes, threatening to blind her again. She needs two operations, the first of which -- and the most important -- is to remove the scar tissue before it reaches her pupils, when it will be too late to save her sight.
This operation will cost $17,000. It must be done outside Ukraine because the country doesn't have the laser equipment needed to do this precise surgery.
Tatyana is an inspiration to all who know her. She won two international courage-in-journalism awards from American journalism organizations because of her courage to continue reporting after her acid attack.
When the war broke out in Ukraine in 2014, refugees from the fighting flooded into Berdyansk, Tatyana's home, doubling the size of the population. Many were homeless children and old people.
Tatyana started a charity organization to help them, and has often given her own money to refugees, even though her profession of journalism does not generate a lot of money.
Tatyana is a selfless and caring person who reaches out to everyone in need.
Now it's her hour of need. Please help save her eyes. It's important that she continue both her journalism and charity work.
