Saving Lexi

Donation protected
Just over a year ago Lexi, a gorgeous, flopped eared German Shepherd, with a heart of gold, found herself homeless following the death of her owner. Thanks to the kind folks of Hopeful Hearts Dog Rescue (Ottawa) Lexi was saved from an uncertain future.

Lexi's luck didn't end there, she was adopted and landed herself an amazing home with Therese (Frenchy) and Lyn , two awesome women who love her to bits and two canine companions, Benny and Charlie. Due to Lexi's former owner's illness, Lexi hadn't the opportunity to enjoy all life had to offer, but that all changed in her new home. Lexi has come so far this past year and a bit, graduating doggie school, shedding some excess weight and she's a regular at the Ancaster Dog Park, playing, socializing and frolicking in the water on a regular basis...a happier girl would be hard to find!

One might think Lexi was a lucky girl to have been saved, and she was, but the role of saviour was about to change. Sadly, less than a year and a half after Lexi's adoption, Therese (Frenchy) was diagnosed with an aggressive and rare form of breast cancer. Lexi has been Frenchy's protector, confidant, constant companion and source of strength, as Frenchy fights the battle to beat cancer. Lexi, once saved, is now the saviour in her owner's life.

Sadly, today, just weeks following Therese's aggressive rounds of chemotherapy, and one week post op for a radical mastectomy, Therese saviour, Lexi, has fallen ill as well. Lexi "bloated" this morning, flipping her stomach...a life threatening condition. Fortunately, Frenchy got Lexi to the emergency clinic and she's now undergoing surgery to hopefully save her life.

Lexi is not out of surgery yet, and so far her care is in excess of $4200.00. If you've ever been touched by cancer, and/or are a fellow dog lover, please consider joining us now to show Frenchy and Lexi how much we care and make a donation today. No donation is too small...in numbers we can all make a difference to one in need. Help us bring Lexi home, so she can continue her role as Frenchy's source of strength while she continues her battle to beat breast cancer.

Like most people facing life's challenges, asking for help is difficult. I know Therese and Lyn would struggle with this too, so I've taken the liberty to reach out for help on their behalf. These 2 ladies are always there for others, whether it be caring for aging parents or fostering homeless animals in need...now it's their turn, now more than ever, for us to reach out with a helping hand.
