Help Save Winona!

Donation protected

My name is Reilly McGlone, I’m 16 years old and this is my puppy Winona. She was just rescued from Pets Inc. in Columbia, South Carolina. Winona is a nine week old hound mix that my parents rescued for me to train as my service dog. I have been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and major depressive disorder. There has also been talk amongst my psychiatric team that I might also have Borderline Personality Disorder-a mood disorder in which I experience emotions much more strongly than normal. I have been hospitalized over five times because of my disorders and the most recent hospital I went to was MUSC in Charleston, South Carolina. The doctors treating me there suggested a therapy pet! Which brought us to Winona.
We've only had her for a week, and within two days of being home, she was showing signs of Parvo, (also known as Canine Parvovirus.) Parvo is a highly contagious and life-threatening disease that often occurs in puppies. Thanksgiving evening, instead of enjoying a nice family dinner, my family was at the emergency animal hospital where the vets diagnosed her with having Parvo. Winona was diagnosed with the intestinal form, which is characterized by vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss, and lack of appetite (anorexia.) The poor thing was very skinny when we rescued her, but she has been losing even more weight to where we can now see her ribs. Parvo itself is a very serious disease, but it can progress rapidly and lead to even more dangers. The place we rescued her from was apparently aware that she was ill, and sold us a sick dog anyways. What was supposed to be a coping skill for my anxiety and depression has now turned into my worst nightmare
As you all probably know, the holidays are a hard time for most families. Apparently for us, to treat Winona is going to be extremely costly. As we are already struggling for money (my mom isn’t able to get a job because she has to stay home with me every day because of my anxiety and only my dad is working part time) and with the holidays right around the corner, we are at a loss for options. I have decided to try fundraising to raise money for Winona’s treatment (which, when all said and done; will be over a thousand dollars.)
Despite only knowing her for a short time, I am already very much attached to Winona. I am heartbroken that she is suffering right now, and I want to try to get her well as soon as possible. I want her to get well because I want her to be an example that rescues can amount to great things; like becoming therapy dogs! She means the world to me, she really does. Any amount donated will be greatly appreciated by the whole McGlone family, not just me. I know this is an especially hard time of year to be throwing money around, but Winona is more than just a pet to me. Just in the short time I’ve had her she’s helped me through panic attacks, suicidal ideations and has just greatly impacted my mental health.

Please, if you could, help my puppy by donating or spreading awareness about this fundraiser. Thank you all so much for hearing our story. xoxo -Reilly
